Air Fryer Radish Chips
Craving french fries, chips, home fries or maybe all of the above? Hey, no judgment, we’ve been there, too! Well, we’ve got a secret that’s going to change your life! Radishes are somewhat of an underrepresented vegetable and they get a bad rap for their stark peppery flavor. And if you’re eating them raw, then they do have a very peppery taste that not everyone finds enjoyable. But did you know that when you cook radishes it eliminates the peppery flavor almost completely. In fact, when cooked radishes adopt a taste and texture that’s the most perfect mix between potato, carrot, and onion. Basically, the perfect ingredient for anyone who loves these higher carb/higher sugar vegetables but are trying to lessen their consumption!
The inspiration for this recipe comes from Jill, author of family food blog This Old Gal. We’ve made some slight modifications from home fries and turned these into a plain-friendly chip that you can enjoy plain with a sprinkle of salt or dip into plan-friendly sauces such as G Hughes ketchup or BBQ sauces. Our recipe below is made for one serving for convenience, but this is definitely a recipe that the whole family can enjoy (so trust us when we say you’ll definitely want to make more than just one serving unless you want your stack of chips getting stolen! The thinner you slice them the crispier they’ll be. So if you’re seeking a healthy potato chip swap, slice, them extra thin with a mandolin! If you’re looking for more of a home fries/hash brown type feel, then thicker slices like what you can do by hand or the slicer side of a grater will be just fine!
Ingredients:
- 8 oz radishes, thinly sliced
- 1 TBSP coconut oil
- ¼ - ½ tsp each: paprika, garlic powder, onion powder
- To taste: sea salt and black pepper
Directions:
- Preheat an air fryer to 360 degrees F. Weigh out 8 oz. of thinly sliced radishes, and put into a medium bowl. Note: a mandolin or food processor will give you the thinnest, most even slices, but a regular knife or slicer side of a grater can work just as well here, too! Add coconut oil and toss.
- Add to the preheated air fryer and cook for 8 minutes, tossing once halfway through. Remove from the air fryer, and toss with the seasonings in the same bowl.
- Return everything to the air fryer and cook for an additional 5-6 minutes at 400 degrees F. Let cool for a minute or two (just until they are cool enough to handle) and enjoy warm!
