Turmeric Adds Earthy Aromas to Meats and Curries

Experts no longer question the notion that the obesity epidemic in our country is driven by a population of people who are overeating. Rather new evidence suggests that overeating may driven by alterations to our food chain that have made highly processed foods more accessible and affordable; but less healthy. Any single aspect of dietary intake can become an important piece to the weight loss puzzle. For example, both soluble and some insoluble fibers are fermented by bacteria in the gut to produce short-chain fatty acids to manage sugar spikes.

Curcumin May Reduce Body Weight

Since too much salt can cause you to retain water, add dried herbs and spices to boost your body's calorie burning efforts. For thousands of years, turmeric has been used to treat a broad range of healthcare conditions. Studies have shown that curcumin, a yellow pigment derived from the spice turmeric, may increase metabolism and reduce body weight. When used in cooking, turmeric adds an earthy aroma to meats, vegetables, and curries.

Obviously, it is much easier to stick with your weight loss journey when you enjoy the foods you are eating. Rosemary is an herb that has been used for years in cooking as well as for medicinal benefits. Naturally rich in carnosic acid, rosemary is known to keep weight off by inhibiting the formation of unwanted fat cells. The spice allows your muscles to soak up glucose to ward off hunger pangs. Spices and herbs make your food taste better and boost your metabolism to help burn fat.

Processed Foods Lead to Higher Risk of Death

Processed foods may be a much bigger health problem than researchers first thought. Refined sugars and added sodium might explain why some people overeat and end up diagnosed with a chronic medical condition. Studies suggest that consuming overly processed foods can lead to cardiovascular conditions as well as a higher risk of death from all causes. Just as the right spices and condiments can support weight loss, studies have shown that added sugar is one of the worst ingredients in the modern diet and most of us consume too much. Many of the foods labeled as healthy are actually loaded with refined or processed sugars, salts, unhealthy fats and preservatives.
