Aim to Eat a Healthy Balance of Macronutrients

Blog Image: Aim to Eat a Healthy Balance of Macronutrients

If you ever tried counting calories, you know how restrictive the diet feels and how quickly the sense of deprivation sets in. On the other hand, aiming to eat the right balance of macronutrients is a proven approach that is customizable depending upon your weight loss goals. Whether your goal is to boost your metabolism, eliminate stubborn fat deposits or build lean muscles, focusing on your intake of carbs, protein and fat will allow you to optimize your menus for the best results.

  • PROTEIN - When it comes to reducing hunger, your gut uses protein to make hormones that slow digestion to keep you feeling fuller, longer. This in turn slows the release of glucose into your blood to stabilize blood sugar levels and prevent insulin spikes. Protein deficiency can contribute to lack of energy, loss of concentration, weakness, mood swings and difficulty sleeping.
  • FAT - Healthy fats provide essential nutrients that your body needs and help to keep your hormone levels in balance for healthy food processing. You should avoid unhealthy fats from foods like French fries, margarine and all hydrogenated oils. Stay away from trans fats as they will not help you reach or maintain your fitness goals.
  • CARBS - Avoid processed foods and simple carb treats like sugary drinks and baked goods. Instead, opt for complex-carbohydrates that are high-fiber choices to keep your body feeling full longer. Carbohydrates do not make you fat or keep you from losing weight as long as you are consuming them within the context of how much energy your body needs on a given day.

If physiological hunger becomes an issue once you are following your macro menus, your weight loss efforts may not be sustainable. Increase your intake of protein at snack time and your hunger pangs should subside in a few days. Keeping track of the macro ratios in your menu plan is a simple way to identify the foods that work for you as well as those that don't. But, trying to wing it with your macros at mealtime is nearly impossible and can cause frustration and undue stress. If you don't have a menu plan, consider having a weight loss professional personalize your diet to meet your specific needs.

I was somewhat apprehensive about trying this but knew I definitely needed to lose weight. I was 260 pounds at 5ft 1 with low energy. I am diabetic and have other issues so I can’t take many medications or supplements. I have only been in the program a month so far and lost 10 lbs. The new menu is definitely doable and mine had to be adjusted to add a fruit a day because my sugar was actually going low. I have been on Trulicity for several years. I didn’t take my med last week because my sugars are so good now they are actually on the low end. So far so good! I just started using the protein drinks that were recommended to keep muscle mass up during my fat loss. I can take them because there is nothing in them that would make my heart race. Gina has been very knowledgeable and really good at recommending what would be best for my situation. For those who want to lose weight but can’t take many supplements, Metabolic can still help you. The guidance and accountability has been wonderful!
