A fruitarian diet is a subset of raw veganism where you eat botanical fruits in their natural state, such as tomatoes, onions, avocados and olives. There are no grains, no cooked food, and no processed foods allowed. In fact, strict fruitarians do not eat vegetables. As a nutrient dense food, fruit is generally low in calories but high in nutrients and vitamins. Fruits are also high in antioxidants that help to protect your body from oxidative stress and may lower the risk of certain chronic medical conditions.

Nutrition Does Not Come from a Single Source

After about a week of paying close attention to the foods you consume, you will be more conscious about your eating patterns and can break bad habits like reaching for a granola bar or energy drink. Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, water, dietary fibers, vitamins and minerals are required nutrients. However, any calories that you do not burn are stored as body fat regardless of the source. Nonetheless, it is impossible to get complete nutrition from fruit alone.

Fruit is very healthy and, when consumed in moderation, can support weight control, but some fruits are high in sugar and should be avoided or limited when you are trying to lose weight.
