Actionable Strategies Cultivate a Positive Mindset

Your mindset is composed of habits that formed in your brain after many previous outcomes. These habits are constantly filtered by your attitude or mental state. A person's mindset provides the attitude needed for achievement and ultimately determines his or her success. If procrastination has been a problem, stop your old way of thinking, change your mindset, and let this be the time you finish what you start. Legendary basketball coach John Wooden said, "Things turn out best for the people who make the best of the way things turn out." This way, you can build upon and repair any damage to your self-confidence.

Although the first step is to ask yourself what you want the end result to be, achieving this requires cultivating a growth mindset using techniques, such as:

  • Make Adjustments - Study the people who you admire for what they've accomplished and try to model what they did by adopting a similar way of thinking and mindset.
  • Don't Procrastinate - If you are constantly striving for external recognition, you are really deceiving others and distracting yourself from becoming who you can be.
  • Believe You Can Change - It is important to ask yourself the right questions to uncover negative beliefs that may be standing in your way.
  • Start with Attainable Goals - It doesn't take long to give up and abandon your goals when you try to rely on willpower alone.
  • Time for Intervention - Understanding the difference between rigid and flexible mindsets is the starting point for getting where you want to be in life and will help you determine what you value the most.
  • Follow Your Self Pace - You need to stay on track and don't just look to improve yourself but adopt a willingness to help others. It offers a unique opportunity to learn and will help build integrity for your new mindset.
  • Spend Time Moving Forward - To be more successful, you not only have to believe you can make yourself better, you may need guidance in taking the actions to get there.

Immediately following a decision to change your life around, it is easy to get stuck at "GO". So, remember that your attitude and beliefs are directly linked to things you do on a daily basis. You might have heard that it takes twenty-one days to make a habit stick. That's a myth. A good habit is not formed by repeating a process "x" number of times but develops alongside your change of mindset. If you live a hectic life with a busy schedule, start out slow and build one new habit at a time. Once you are comfortable with your new behavior, it is time to tackle your next challenge. Actionable strategies help cultivate a positive mindset that is critical for long-term success.
