Are you fearful of falling off the wagon because you've been invited to eat out? If so, read on. The act of eating out is practically woven into our society. If you make good decisions and follow these tips, you can enjoy the experience. You’ll still need will-power to make the smart choices, but it is possible to leave the restaurant completely satisfied without knocking your diet plan out of the water.
- Watch What You Drink - When eating out, anyone who is watching their weight knows to watch what they eat. Choosing the right drinks that tweak your metabolism or curb your appetite can be a helper on your weight loss journey.
- Pick the Way Food Is Cooked - Grilled will almost invariably be healthier than fried, and steamed foods will fill your belly with less fat, calories and cholesterol. Chicken or shrimp are usually good choices for your protein.
- Compare Condiments and Sauces - Menus at most restaurants now include nutritional information, although you may have to ask to see it. Make sure the condiments, toppings, gravy or sauces are not loaded with calories, fat or sodium.
- Think Lean - When you are eating out, leaner proteins, such as seafood or chicken, tend to be a better option for appetizers and entrées, especially when baked or grilled. Avoid menu options that are fried, sautéed or swimming in gravy or sauces.
- Right Size Portions - Never supersize it. Instead, right size your portions when eating out. As prices have increased, many restaurants have increased their portion sizes.
Eating at a fancy sit-down restaurant does not necessarily mean you're making healthier decisions. Many menu options aren't much healthier than their fast food counterpart. If you are trying to lose weight or working hard to maintain a goal weight, eating out can expose you to all sorts of temptations. Follow the tips provided above and make good menu choices for a guilt-free experience.
