Eating Out Is Not an Excuse to Abandon Your Plan

Blog Image: Eating Out Is Not an Excuse to Abandon Your Plan

If you have to eat out regularly, you already know that the calories, fat, sugar, and sodium can add up quickly. However, that’s no excuse to abandon your commitment to making healthier food choices. Just use what you know to make better decisions. Take the time to savor the aromas and flavor of your meal. Making conscious choices about what you consume and paying attention to the eating process have been linked to making healthier choices when dining out.

During the holidays, every week seems to present its own agenda for reasons to dine out. Without a conscious effort, it can be a surefire way to derail your plans for healthy eating, so be prepared to make good food choices. Eating out is one of America’s great past times. Nonetheless, it can be fun and relaxing without causing you to abandon plans for eating healthy and living well. Good foods can fit into any well-balanced menu plan.

Eating out successfully only requires that you plan ahead. It is easier to make good food choices when you have already decided on what you want to eat and order accordingly. Here’s some helpful tips by meal types:

  • Eating Breakfast Out – Breakfast is the best meal for consuming healthy carbs. Choose a toasted slice of whole grain, sourdough, or rye bread and avoid buttery biscuits (with or without syrup).
  • Eating Out at Lunch – Portion sizes in restaurants can be more food than you need to eat even at lunchtime. Remember that just because there is extra food on your plate, you don’t have to eat it. Ask for a takeout box to keep your portion sizes under control.
  • Eating Out at Dinner – Although you can’t directly control the way food is prepared or how many calories there are in a dish, plan ahead when eating out at dinner and you can make smarter food choices.

It’s not just what you choose to eat when dining out that counts. Who you choose to eat out with can help. Dining with health-conscious salad eaters makes it easier to eat well as compared to a night out with beer-guzzling pizza eaters. When you have worked so hard at home to develop new habits for eating healthy, the thought of eating out a restaurant can be a bit intimidating. However, if you make the same good choices when dining out, you can enjoy a delicious guilt-free meal.

I can’t say enough good things about this program. When I first started and went for my first visit I was scared, embarrassed, unhealthy, and honestly felt like this was another thing I’ll probably quit after a month of no results. Then I met Angie and her team. To say it’s been life changing is an understatement! These caring women have encouraged me, supported me, and celebrated all my successes. They believed I could do it when I didn’t believe I could do it. I’m eternally grateful for this place and Angie! if you’re on the fence about starting, do it!
