It Is Easy to Set Lofty Resolutions During the Holidays

It is not a good idea to force change on yourself. You may lose some weight, but you will probably gain that back unless you made an honest commitment to improve your health by eating healthier foods. Adopting a short-term change in dietary habits can help you drop a few pounds, but those who are overweight or obese need to make a commitment to improving their health and wellness by eating healthy for the long haul. If you bite off more than you can chew, establish some realistic short-term goals that can help you overcome any struggles you have with a lack of willpower. After all, you can still achieve your resolution in 2021. Every year in America, millions of men and women resolve to lose weight. Create a daily to-do list that focuses on an achievable goal and plan exactly how you intend to accomplish it over the coming weeks and months.

  • Start with Simple Activities - When you choose activities that are fun, you won’t feel as pressured to set aside time for exercising. Picking physical activities that you hate will not help you shed weight.
  • Add Low Impact Exercise - Walking is a very simple cardio exercise that helps you lose stored fat while improving your fitness. A brisk walk in fresh air can have a positive benefit on your metabolism and heart health.
  • Break Up Physical Activities - Although resistance training doesn’t produce sweat-dripping results like cardio, adding lean muscle mass works in favor of your efforts to lose weight.
  • Add Strength Training - Although strength training doesn’t burn lots of calories like cardio exercises do, strength training adds muscle mass, which is important for eliminating fat deposits.
  • Work Your Way Up - A pre-meal walk around the block before dinner is served is a great place to start and easy way to work your way up by adding more distance or other forms of exercise.
  • Recruit an Exercise Buddy - Schedule exercise sessions with friends or family members. Morning walks, stretching in the park, yoga sessions, and low-impact aerobics are sharable exercises.

Sloppy aspirations tend to fail quickly, where establishing a specific target for weight loss and lifestyle changes can produce the results you want. Saying your New Year’s resolution is to lose weight and be healthy sounds great, but it is not a clear-cut plan. The premise of making a resolution (goal setting) makes sense. If you have a clear-cut target in your head, you are more likely to be ambitious about reaching it. However, do not expect your journey to be free of challenges. If you start obsessing over weighing yourself every day, then change your process and check on your progress weekly. Expanding your feedback loop should allow you to focus on eating healthy. If you reach a point where you feel that you have no idea as to what you should be doing, it may be time to consult with a weight loss specialist who can remotely, or in-person help you achieve your goal.
