Real Food Diets to Help Restore Health and Wellness

Many overweight Americans want to lose weight without making permanent lifestyle changes. This suggests that they are more interested in being thin than healthy. Moreover, there will always be someone ready to take advantage with a lose-weight-fast scheme. The search for effective weight loss programs has been going on for centuries, as the desire to lose weight has been a constant.

In his best seller The Art of Living Long, Lord Byron published the first celebrity diet of flattened potatoes soaked in vinegar. Metabolic processes in the human body are designed to prevent starvation. So, when you consume a very low-calorie diet, the calories burn at a very low metabolic rate. Due to a much lower energy level, this can leave you feeling compromised physically and mentally.

As self-control is a skill developed through hard work, don't be discouraged over setbacks, such as:

  • CRASH DIETS - Hormonal balance starts in the gut and crash diets do not balance your macronutrient intake for sustainable weight loss. This can result in an increased appetite and excessive amounts of stored fat.
  • NOT NOURISHING BODY - Intuitive eating is about rejecting diet culture and tuning into your body's own internal wisdom on how to best nourish your body. Unfortunately, this approach makes no concession for hormonal imbalances.
  • SKIPPING MEALS - It is a misconception that skipping meals will result in long-term calorie reduction as it usually leads to increased snacking between meals or overeating at the next meal.
  • SLEEP RELATED HORMONES - The appetite hormones (leptin and ghrelin) are released by the body during sleep. This means that people have less of a sense of satiety if they are not getting enough sleep, which can lead to middle of the night munchies and weight gain.
  • UNHEALTHY CALORIE RESTRICTIONS - A high metabolism is ideal for losing weight, but fad dieting can actually cause your metabolic rate to lower due to less muscle mass. This reduces the number of calories you burn at rest, which can result in weight gain.
  • NEGATIVE SELF SPEAK - Stopping negative self-talk quickly can be difficult as we are habitual in our thoughts and reactions. You can draw on your compassion and reaffirm your commitment to your lifestyle reset if you learn to catch yourself earlier in the process.

It is easier to see the behaviors that lead others to self-sabotaging behaviors. Conversely, we often fail to see the compounded outcome of our own bad decisions.

It is not realistic to expect that you will suddenly find plenty of extra time to cook like a gourmet chef; you won't. But, working one-on-one with our weight loss consultant will allow you to address all of your issues to make the best choices for you every day. Having someone explain how a given diet works for a given person may be the "holy grail" for successful weight loss. At the Metabolic Research Center, our doctors and dietitians have been developing real food diets for people to restore their health and wellness for more than twenty-five years.
