When it comes to the speed of weight loss, you have to accept the fact that rapid weight loss seen on TV reality shows or weight loss advertising claims are usually unrealistic, so expect that it will take you longer to see the same results. When it comes to losing weight fast, there are no magic beans, miracle cures, or quick fixes. Rapid weight loss usually comes with a host of side effects, such as:

  • Headaches - Prioritizing the foods you eat, such as fiber-rich vegetables, healthy fats, and lean proteins, is good for your overall health and will keep you satiated to prevent hunger headaches for occurring between meals.
  • Irritability - So you’ve dropped a few pounds and your old work clothes are fitting better, but you are growling at everyone in sight. Overly restrictive eating plans can deplete your brain of vital energy needed to for you to function as a happy human being.
  • Low Energy - Calories provide a valuable source of energy to fuel your body. If you are trying to lose weight too fast, it can leave you feeling sluggish, especially if you are also overdoing it in the gym.
  • Dizziness - Any time you drastically reduce your food intake to lose weight fast, you may experience dizziness. Since your brain controls your balance, add a small amount of fiber-rich carbohydrates for a better energy balance.
  • Constipation - If you are on a diet that restricts certain food groups or requires you to increase the intake of other foods, your body might respond by producing hard, infrequent stools due to changes in hydration and fiber intake.
  • Hormonal Irregularities - Losing weight too fast can cause menstrual irregularities by interfering with hormonal production needed for ovulation. However, excessive weight gain can also make ovulation more difficult leading to infrequent periods.

Understand that small successes can lead to big result as long as you think each weight loss goal through and set your benchmarks for achieving smaller, more attainable steps. Since extreme weight loss deprives your body of essential nutrients, shedding pounds too quickly can lead to an increased risk of developing certain health conditions as well as metabolic syndrome.
