Tired of Hearing Eat Less and Move More?

It's certainly good advice but those are not the only things that most people need to change to lose weight and keep it off. You have to change how you think about weight loss. Health related quality of life includes the signs and symptoms of good health and disease, as well as any stigma you have about being overweight. These represent your physical, psychological and social functioning.

Your mind is a very powerful organ. If you learn to harness its power, you can use mind control in a way that will help you achieve your target weight and long-term weight loss goals. Since dieting is often associated with a quick fix to drop a few pounds, calling any healthy lifestyle change a "diet" is demoralizing and can ultimately cause you to regain the pounds you lost.

  • Focus on Long-Term - Visual feedback is important as it can keep you from eating too much, so measure your food servings and pour snacks into a small bowl or napkin to avoid eating more than you planned.
  • Establish a Routine - Visualizing what you expect to accomplish is a proven way of improving your willpower to attain what you're visualizing. So, dream big but divide your dream into smaller goals.
  • Hone Your Motivation - Low self-esteem can be debilitating for people who struggle with his or her body image. Honing your motivation requires replacing negative thinking with positive thoughts.
  • Listen to Your Body - The clearer you hear you body's hunger signals, the better you will be able to manage what you eat, when you eat, and how much you eat.
  • Avoid Stress Eating - Food is neither your enemy nor your friend. That's why it is important to look at all food as a source of nourishment rather than as a reward or bad way to deal with your emotions.

By changing how you think about food, you can change how you act and react for the most positive health benefits. However, it is important to give yourself a break and learn how to relax. Losing weight is a challenge that millions of Americans struggle with every year. Without a healthy mental attitude, their success rate of weight loss will be quite low.

Setting the wrong goals at the beginning can set you up for failure. The same is true for adopting a goal that is too vague, so set smart goals that are attainable and meaningful to you. Using your willpower to overcome cravings and develop a better mental attitude about food can help you improve the way you eat and how you think about health and wellness.
