The Body Burns Some Calories and Stores Others as Fat

A calorie is seen as one unit of energy. Nonetheless, how your body uses the energy depends on the type of food that produced the calorie. Your body will burn some calories and store others as fat. In the beginning, it helps to focus on one goal at a time. For example, it can be difficult to lose weight and build muscle mass at the same time. Once your body is done building muscle, it will store excess calories as fat, so determining the right macro ratio can be tricky and should be based on your body's unique needs.

  • PROTEIN - Protein is the building block for strong muscles and helps repair tissue. Proteins also aid in production of important hormones and enzymes. When you do not have enough carbohydrates available for energy, your body breaks down the protein in muscles to produce glycogen. If you want to lose weight, researchers recommend adding proteins to your menu plan.
  • FAT - If you are like most people, you were told to avoid fat. Nowadays, researchers know you only need to avoid or limit consumption of certain types of fat (saturated, trans fat and cholesterol). Essential fats benefit your weight loss efforts in many ways, such as reduced hunger sensations, lowered risk of cardiovascular disease, improved thyroid function and better glucose metabolism.
  • CARBOHYDRATES - Fiber is a type of carbohydrate that the body cannot digest, so it does not produce energy like sugar or starches. High fiber foods are however great for weight loss as they leave you feeling full longer. Both men and women, who feel fatigued and weak after a routine workout, should consider adjusting their balance of macronutrient intake as well as supplement any micronutrient disparities.

Macronutrients provide your body with essential foods, but you can't consume carbohydrates, fat and protein without consuming calories. Balancing your macros to restrict your calories leads to healthy weight loss. Since macronutrients are the nutritional foods that your body cannot live without, carbohydrates, protein and fat all play their own role and each have their own weight-loss superpowers. Most people will have enough glycogen available to fuel their body no matter what they ate at their most recent meal.
