Time Restricted Eating Supports Healthy Aging

Blog Image: Time Restricted Eating Supports Healthy Aging

An abundance of current weight loss research suggests that intermittent fasting is an effective longevity tool. Time restricted eating techniques allow people to improve their overall health by losing weight and improving their lifestyle. In fact, studies are emerging that show how intermittent fasting can help you live a longer life and even enhance your brain function. People with poor blood sugar regulation as well as those who are underweight or have an eating disorder should consult with a medical provider before engaging in intermittent fasting. Even though men tend to see a bigger impact from fasting than women do, excellent health benefits are seen among all groups.

  • 12-Hour Fast - Time restricted eating is a great approach for beginners, as it simply involves not eating between dinner one day and breakfast the next day. A majority of people have practiced this eating pattern.
  • The 16:8 Fast - The 16:8 diet requires men to fast for 16 hours each day and women fast for 14 hours. People usually finish an evening meal by 8 pm and then skip breakfast the next morning.
  • Eat-Stop-Eat Fast - A skip-a-day diet involves complete food restriction for 24 hours either once or twice a week. For example, you can eat dinner on Monday and refrain from eating until you eat dinner on Tuesday.
  • Meal Skipping Fast - By eliminating meals when you don't feel hungry, you can trigger cellular repair processes throughout the body with improved gene expression to help stave off chronic diseases.

It is never a bad idea to talk to your doctor or dietitian about whether intermittent fasting is right for you. After all, the best diet for you is the one that actually works with your lifestyle. So, if fasting prevents you from feeling strong and doing the things you love, remember you have other options. If you are feeling good and losing weight during your fasting windows, then that is the protocol that best suits your body. To the contrary, if your weight loss has stalled and you feel sluggish all day, then it is time to make modifications to your plan. *NOTE: Due to a difference in hormonal makeup, women have special considerations when fasting. Intermittent fasting is not a good idea for women under 18 years of age, those with a lean body profile, or those with medical conditions, such as hypothyroidism or a history of eating disorders. Ask your physician about an appropriate fasting protocol for you.

I saw first hand what MRC did for my sister, and it inspired me as well. This plan is easy to follow and I enjoy the food options. Not hard to cook for myself and my family. A huge thanks to my coach, Tonya. She has been wonderful and goes out of her way to send product through post to Canada! I'm excited to see a steady drop in weight in the last 10 weeks and have great expectations to reach my goal, like I've never experienced before. Thanks Tonya!
