Create the Right Mindset to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

Being too exuberant can lead to an overly restrictive menu plan that ends up slowing your metabolism causing a need for an additional reduction in caloric intake. If you make your health a priority, you can build steps into your routines and healthy patterns of behavior will become a routine part of your every day. Remember to reward yourself (other than food rewards) and it will help you feel good about what you've accomplished.

Celebrate your success by periodically recognizing your hard work and commitment. Although you cannot change the past, attitude is often more important than facts. If you think you will fail, you will. If you know you are going to succeed, you will. You have a choice every day regarding your attitude and that should dictate your actions.

  • Tell Yourself You Can Do This - Setting smaller or short-term goals will help you recognize the progress that you are making, which can help to keep you motivated. Your smaller achievements will eventually add up so you reach your target weight.
  • Exercise Willpower - It is a myth that willpower is something that you have to work on all alone. In fact, studies suggest that one of the best ways to stay on track with your weight loss goals is by establishing an accountability partner.
  • Dieting Alone Won't Work - Since it takes time to accomplish real goals, it is important to adopt realistic strategies for budgeting your time each day, so you can devote effort to eating right and staying active.
  • Hang with Other Dieters - We all make excuses to try to justify our behavior but these type of excuses won't do you any good when it comes to losing weight and keeping it off. Make yourself accept failures and work to improve them.
  • Establish the Right Mindset - Weight loss shouldn't be the focus. It is the journey you go on to learn how to reboot your mindset, create your strategies, and achieve your weight loss goals.

In the future, you may see an array of interventions from functional to regenerative medicine become part of a state-of-the-art weight loss therapy, similar to the mind-body conditioning used for managing chronic pain. You do not have to be a slave to food addictions and unwanted food cravings. But, you do need to manage stress to replace the unhealthy eating patterns and choose a healthier lifestyle.

Many people get into trouble because they eat too much when they snack, so trick your mind into eating less and enjoying it more. Portion your snacks into small baggies. This way you will feel like you ate all of something and your brain will be more satisfied. Some experts believe we would have much happier people in a variety of body shapes and sizes if we decided to care for our bodies and manage our appetite rather than obsess over fad diets.
