If you started working on your New Year’s resolution without a plan, you may have already experienced obstacles. To avoid setbacks, write down what you believe you need to do to reach your first short-term goal. Some New Year’s resolutions are simply too vague or too broad. Focusing on one specific goal makes creating a daily action plan easier to do and successfully establishing a new behavioral pattern will make your resolution more achievable. Trying to take on too much too quickly is a major reason that New Year’s resolutions fail. Each year, millions of people launch an unsustainable restrictive diet or plan to radically alter their behavior. This is almost a surefire way to fail. Creating a detailed plan can obviously help you remain focused on your goal. When you are faced with challenges that are critical for success, you can implement new tactics and strategies to stay on track toward making your resolution a reality in 2021.

  • Set a Realistic Resolution - To lofty of a resolution can cause you to fail before you even get started. Achieving smaller goals early on can boost your motivation to keep you on track.
  • Stay Persistent but Be Patient - Building healthier habits is as much a mental game as it is a physical one. Remaining optimistic about your achieving your goals makes it easier to deal with setbacks.
  • Track Your Progression - Understand that it is important to make adjustments as you get further along in your weight loss journey. Measuring your progress, helps ensure an accurate path.
  • Recruit Healthy Support - Setbacks will happen, but that is not a valid reason to scrap your resolution. Establishing a solid support network makes it easier to come up with a corrective strategy.
  • Hold Yourself Accountable - Approach achieving your resolution one step at time by striving for progress, not perfection. Troubleshoot what barriers or obstacles may have gotten in your way.
  • Plan on Keeping Your Resolution - Daily achievements add up. Plan on attaining the things you ultimately wanted to achieve. Hitting emotional barriers or a weight loss plateau is common.

Since things we do over and over become habitual actions, it is easy to see how important it is to repeat your daily regime. That way your new habits require less energy expenditure and very little thinking. Setting measurable goals and monitoring your progress is crucial to achieving your resolutions. You have to take relevant steps like eating whole foods and drinking water instead of sugary drinks to succeed. Being specific about your goals is the best way to launch a New Year’s resolution. That way making measurable actions a part of your day-to-day regimen will make it easier to resist temptation and reach your long-term goals. You should only make a resolution this year if the change is something that is important to you. Long lasting change must be self-motivated.

I joined MRC Centennial in September 2024 on their medical weight loss program and I am down over 50 pounds. This is by far the best program out there for me and I have tried them all for most of my adult life. The coaches are so supportive and encouraging. I couldn't ask for better.
