How to Never Shy Away from Setting New Goals

If you tend to shy away from new challenges, it may be directly related to a fixed mindset that relies on destructive patterns from faulty learning and lowered self-concept. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist for the Washington Post, David Maraniss said, "If you start with the mindset that you know nothing, you will learn a lot that nobody knew before." People who rely on a fixed mindset to manage their life often believe that some people are born with the ability to succeed, while others don't possess this unattainable gift. It is important that your mindsets allow you to see yourself as someone who can be happy.

Listed below are tips for establishing a new mindset that may apply to you:

  • Find Your Self Voice - When you play it safe, you limit the experience, fail to enjoy the richness in your life, undermine your own creativity, fail to attain accomplishments that are uniquely your own, and constantly chase an elusive state of stability.
  • Believe You Can Change - You have to believe that what stands between you and what you want can be changed. A growth mindset empowers you to transform those things in your life that prevent true happiness.
  • Flip the Switch Today - Wake up with your goals in mind every day. That's not to say you should wake up worried. Instead, make a commitment to remain happy; you owe it to yourself.
  • Focus on Real Results - Never fear making mistakes. You may need to fail at a faster rate to find the answers you've been searching for all along.
  • Time to Change is Now - You don't need to tell everyone about your goals. Try to keep yourself busy and concentrate on working toward achieving what you set out to do.
  • Invest in a Flexible Mindset - To invest in yourself, replace your overly negative thoughts with more realistic statements that will inspire you to take positive actions and create the life you want to live.

Managing your vision for change will go a lot smoother once you've made a commitment to redefine your mindset. Moreover, don't expect changes to occur without expending effort. Once you muster the motivation to make changes to your life, don't procrastinate. Take the first step, then rely on your growth mindset to guide your future actions. Punishing yourself for a failure is a controlling behavior that does not cause your attitude to change. A growth mindset is required to effect change, whereby the initial results are considered and a new set of actions are taken.
