You don't have to give up eating out just because you are managing your weight. But, you do need to know how to navigate the Danger Zone. Although, it is never a good idea to eat whatever you want at a fast food restaurant or anywhere else for that matter. However, you can still manage your weight loss plan, if you follow a few tips:
- Drink Water - Replacing sugary drinks can help reduce your intake of calories. In fact, drinking water before and during your meal is a fantastic choice that also helps to fill you up.
- Have It Your Way - If you dine out a lot, there may be times you don't care for the healthier options listed on the menu. You can always ask to combine healthy items from different dishes or simply ask that the kitchen prepare a dish in a healthier way.
- Get Sauced on the Side - Sauces, gravy and condiments can be filled with unwanted calories, sugars and salts. Ask for these on the side and only use enough to add some of their unique flavor.
- Ask for Extra Plates - Order an appetizer, entrée and side along with enough plates for your group. Then, divide the food among your friends or family members.
- Be a Mindful Eater - Making conscientious choices about what you eat is important, but don't overlook giving attention to the eating process. Mindful eating improves your self-control, allows you to savor flavors and helps to prevent you from overeating.
Eating at a fancy sit-down restaurant doesn't necessarily mean you're making a healthier decision. Many menu options aren't much healthier than their fast food counterpart.
