Pick Your Most Logical Starting Point

If you want to tackle new challenges, it may be time to change your mindset and develop the strategies you need to persevere. Studies have shown that people with a flexible mindset behave differently when confronted with life's challenges and end up learning from their mistakes. Instead of being held hostage by false beliefs, identify the faulty thinking that lead to a fixed mindset about tackling new challenges. American designer of creative houses from reclaimed stuff Dan Phillips said, "You can build someone a new home, but you can't give them a new mindset."

Positive and negative thinking are learned habits. Use the tips below to become a positive thinker with a growth mindset for attacking new challenges:

  • Start with Yourself - Stop trying to connect your self-worth to concepts that represent a fixed mindset. Eliminate self-doubt and focus your time and energy on positive concepts for individual growth.
  • Focus on Fast Changes - Avoid negative influences, especially early on, you know who the people are that can bring you down. You don't have to un-friend anyone because you are responsible for your own attitude.
  • Believe Change is Possible - You can't always control the events, but you can manage your emotions and control what you choose to think and feel about the challenges you face.
  • Start Small and Finish Big - If you immerse yourself in positive thinking and personal growth content, it will change your self-dialogue and allow you to see your challenges in a different way.
  • Don't Talk About It... Take Action - Optimistic thinking provides a boost for your spirit and triggers the positive emotions, thoughts, and feelings that will motivate you to take actions.
  • Focus on Your Pace Only - Life should never be about what you have not been able to achieve but what you expect to accomplish next.
  • Invest in a Flexible Mindset - Don't let the fear of losing the time and effort that you've invested guide your emotions.

It doesn't matter how old you are, it is never too late to change your life for the better. Trade in your fixed mindset for one that supports and encourages making changes to live a life that's more fulfilled. Simply stating that you want to break or change a habit will never make it so. Once you abandon your fixed mindsets, you can apply all that you learned while becoming good at one thing to become proficient at something else. If there is a habit that you previously tried to establish but somehow let it slip away, renewing that challenge and seeing it through will provide a greater sense of self-efficacy.
