Set Weight Goals with a Positive Mindset

Blog Image: Set Weight Goals with a Positive Mindset

If you started working on your New Year’s resolution without a plan, you may have already experienced obstacles. To avoid setbacks, write down what you believe you need to do to reach your first short-term goal. How you talk to yourself impacts your actions and your behavior. That’s why it is important to define your goals using positive self-talk. Resolving to make changes while using negatives like “not” tends to affect your critical thinking. To get on track, tackle each element of your weight loss plan individually. For example, cut out junk food or reduce your portion sizes or eat three helpings of vegetables a day. If you focus on taking tiny steps, you increase your odds of reaching short-term goals as well as ultimately attaining your New Year’s resolution.

  • Set a Realistic Resolution - Setting measurable goals and being consistent in your efforts will help ensure your resolution is more attainable. Just make sure your goals are also meaningful.
  • Stay Persistent but Be Patient - Being patient and persistent can propel you into accomplishing even more than you intended. Moreover, the success you feel will be a boost to your motivation.
  • Track Your Progression - Understand that it is important to make adjustments as you get further along in your weight loss journey. Measuring your progress, helps ensure an accurate path.
  • Recruit Healthy Support - Hitting a plateau can cause your progress to stall. Having a good support mechanism in place provides an accountability partner to help you overcome emotional barriers.
  • Hold Yourself Accountable - Believing you can accomplish your goals is more than just maintain a positive mindset. It is your path to successful weight loss.
  • Plan on Keeping Your Resolution - Your resolution doesn’t have to be cast in stone the first day of the new year. Understand that it is okay to adjust your goals and fine tune your path as you progress on your journey.

Realize that once you make a resolution to change your behavior, it is something that you will continue to work on and manage for the rest of your life. So, don’t be discouraged by short-term failures or challenges. Setting measurable goals and monitoring your progress is crucial to achieving your resolutions. You have to take relevant steps like eating whole foods and drinking water instead of sugary drinks. Being specific about your goals is the best way to launch a New Year’s resolution. That way making measurable actions a part of your day-to-day regimen will make it easier to resist temptation and reach your long-term goals. Setting a resolution to lose weight and get in shape are great long-term goals, but they are not very specific. Vague resolutions without an action plan are likely to fail very early on.
