Peppers Can Add Heat and Sweetness to Support Weight Loss

Blog Image: Peppers Can Add Heat and Sweetness to Support Weight Loss

Research published in Medical News Today suggests, without sufficient changes to your daily menu plan, exercise alone is highly unlikely to lead to substantial weight loss. Most people spend much of his or her life in the same weight range without counting calories. Truth is their bodies have achieved the right energy balance to support homeostasis. This is why altering these processes by dieting makes losing weight and keeping it off more difficult.

Habanero Peppers Are Low in Calories

Some foods can increase your body's metabolism by stimulating fat burning mechanisms. Red peppers contain capsaicin, which can affect fat burning when available in proper quantities. This includes cayenne, chili, jalapeno, habanero, and bell peppers to a lesser amount. If you prefer the flavor profile of a particular pepper, you can rest easy knowing that it will not significantly increase your intake of sodium, fat or calories.

A study reported in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that participants who consumed chili peppers as part of different meals for 4 weeks had reduced levels of insulin after eating. This suggests that adding hot peppers to your menus might help lower your risk of type-2 diabetes. Peppers come in all sizes and colors. While some pack the heat, others add sweetness. Peppers on the vine start green, turn yellow and then red as they ripen.

Fast Food Eaters Gained More Weight and Inches

In a recent study on fast food consumption, teenagers and adults who frequented fast food restaurants gained almost a pound per year more weight, had larger waist circumference increases, and doubled their odds of developing metabolic syndrome than did participants who had the lowest fast food intake. Once you have decided to lose weight, there will be some sacrifices as well as small indulgences that must be allowed. If not, you will end up feeling deprived, which is not sustainable and only can be briefly tolerated before you will likely give up.
