Age Does Not Matter When Adopting a New Mindset
It is important to understand that you are conditioned to think and operate within a to-do-list mindset that gives you a false sense of accomplishment and significance. When you choose to make a positive change in your life, your beliefs do not necessarily need to reflect your current reality, however, they do need to reflect something that is possible to achieve. People with a fixed or rigid mindset blame others for their own shortcomings instead of choosing to learn from them to become more successful in life. In Act 2 of Hamlet, William Shakespeare wrote, "...there is nothing either good or bad, but thinking makes it so."
You will be able to get more sustainable results, when you are flexible to doing things differently, especially when applying strategies like those listed below:
- Why Mindset Matters - Research suggests a link between your mindset and negative stereotype threats that you believe to be true about yourself, e.g. - all the women in my family are naturally overweight.
- Focus on Fast Changes - There is always more information available than is needed. Finding and following the best advice is the answer. Everything else is a waste of your time.
- Never Doubt Change is Possible - Your mindset was formed through prior experiences and emotional milestones, so acknowledge the fact that your mindset needs an adjustment before you set new goals.
- Forget the Past - If you started with less than others, stop complaining and accept that it will make your rise to the top more rewarding.
- Follow Your Pace - Increasing your neural growth comes from setting and following good strategies, such as practicing good nutrition and sleep habits as a positive but personal intervention.
- Invest in a Better You - It is important to invest the time to identify where you may have fixed mindset tendencies, so you can work to become more growth minded in setting and attaining goals.
Age doesn't matter when it comes to changing your mindset. Remember that your attitude and beliefs are directly linked to things you do on a daily basis. Regardless of how good or bad your habits are they likely have burned deep grooves in brain and control the subconscious mind where your limiting beliefs are kept. If you live a hectic life with a busy schedule, start out slow and build one new habit at a time. Tool your habits towards your goals and those things that personally motivate you. Once you are comfortable with your new behavior, it is time to tackle your next challenge.
