Hallelujah Acres Diet Is Based on Low Fat and High Fiber Consumption

The Chinese do not have a word for calories, as they view food as nourishment and not as a factor for potential weight gain. However, traditionally prepared Chinese food varies greatly from franchised versions of Asians dishes that may contain sugary, overly processed components of Western nutrition. Early signs of medical problems linked to bad diets were first noticed in Medieval England when it was observed that the wealthy, who could afford meat and other food luxuries, had a higher occurrence of bowel disease and gout. Peasants, on the other hand, ate more balanced meals coupled with hard physical labor each day.

Listed below are some of the most interesting diets for the ages:

  • LOW-CARB DIET - The first popular diet released to the public in print was the Banting diet in 1863. An English undertaker named William Banting wrote a pamphlet entitled Letter on Corpulence, Addressed to the Public, where he discussed his own diet of four meals a day consisting of meat, greens, fruits and dry wine.
  • VEGETARIAN DIET - Established in 1847, the Vegetarian Society headquarters are housed in Altrincham, Greater Manchester, which is also the location of the institute's Cookery School. A balanced vegetarian diet packed with a variety of fruits and vegetables is considered by vegans to be one of the healthiest dietary approaches.
  • FLETCHERISM - Fletcherism is a dietary lifestyle, where food is consumes only when hungry and in small amounts. The key component involved extensive chewing of one's food between 32 and 100 times per mouthful.
  • CABBAGE SOUP DIET - In the 1950s, the Cabbage Soup Diet became popular with celebrities that needed to drop 10 pounds quickly. By consuming nothing but cabbage and veggies in water, this low calorie diet was excellent for fitting into a little black dress but is not sustainable.
  • BEVERLY HILLS DIET - Originally, Judy Mazel's diet required people to eat enzyme-rich fruit only for the first ten days of a 42-day regimen. Highly criticized by experts, the New Beverly Hills Diet promotes all food groups but focuses on conscious food combinations of fruit and vegetables.
  • HALLELUJAH ACRES DIET - Created by George Malkmus (a North Carolina reverend) and his wife Rhonda Jean, the Hallelujah Acres Diet, like other low-fat, high-fiber diets, consists primarily of uncooked fruits and vegetables supplemented with an array of nutrients.
  • SUBWAY DIET - The new millennium saw the rise of the Subway Diet, when spokesperson Jared Fogle lost 245 pounds in less than a year by limiting his food intake to one 6-inch turkey sub for lunch and a foot-long vegetable sub for dinner along with a bag of baked chips and a diet soda.

Dieting is the practice of decreasing body weight by eating in a regulated and supervised fashion. In theory, weight loss should be easy; burn more than you store. However, losing weight and keeping it off is never that simple. That's why following a mind-numbing fad diet seldom, if ever, works. You have to learn to fuel your body with the right foods, stay committed to a healthier lifestyle, and make adjustments when you reach certain plateaus.
