The human body is a very massive chemical reaction. We eat food to bring new chemicals into our body — vitamins, minerals, proteins, fats, enzymes, water, sugars and a host of other "ingredients." Our body uses those bits to create energy, build new cells, and to save up for emergencies. It is the latter that causes us to gain weight and a combination of all of these tasks that keep us overweight. Let's explore.

Dieting is a Recipe to Fail

Dieting is designed to help us lose weight, but it does not always do what we think it does. Fad diets do not always burn fat. Many times, dieting does cause our body to lose water. But, water is what helps our body to function. It is what our body uses to make chemical reactions, build new cells, and to burn fat. So without water, it becomes more difficult to burn fat. Even though we lose weight, we do not shed fat. At the end of a fad diet, we may weigh a certain amount, but only for a short time. Since our body needs water, the weight comes back. That is the foolishness of fad dieting.

The Positive Way to Lose Weight

The way to lose weight is to change the way you chose foods and the times that you eat. We call this a lifestyle change rather than a diet. When you eat healthy foods, your body begins to naturally shed fat. When you reduce the amount of salt, sugar, and fats in your diet, your body begins to use stored-fat that it had reserved for emergencies. Because this is not a diet, you don't get to the end only to gain back the weight that you lost. So, eating healthy burns stored fat. On the other hand, dieting causes you lose water weight. The difference is important because you will always gain back the water weight.
