Foods That are Killing Your Metabolism

If you feel like you are making many healthy changes to try and lose weight and aren’t seeing any results, then it might be time to further inspect what you are eating. Many foods that seem like they would be healthy are actually slowing down your metabolism. We have compiled our top list of foods (and drinks) to stay away from because they are slowing down your metabolism.


  1. Fruit Juice: Unfortunately, most fruit juices contain a large amount of sugar which will absolutely wreck your metabolism and lead to weight gain. Instead, go for water with a squeeze of lemon, lime or orange.

  2. Canola Oil: Using the wrong type of oil could be keeping you from seeing the results you want. Boost your metabolism by replacing vegetable oils with coconut oil or grass-fed butter.

  3. Peanut Butter: Try cutting down on your serving size. Aim for 1 tablespoon and if you can, swap for almond butter or cashew butter instead.  

  4. Granola: Granola has that perfect crunch, but most store bought kinds are filled with sugar and over processed honey. To overcome this, we recommend making your own granola. Combine your choice of almonds, pecans, cashews, chia seeds, raw local honey, raisins, unsweetened coconut flakes, cinnamon and sea salt. Place on a piece of parchment paper and toast in the oven until lightly brown for a metabolism boosting snack.
