Be a Party Animal and Lose Weight Too

Party Hat, Dumbbells and Measuring Tape

As you scan the invitation to a friend’s party, you start to panic. Since launching a healthy eating plan, you’ve prepared almost all of your meals at home. You’re afraid a night of indulgence might undo all of the progress you’ve made. If you can relate to this scenario, don’t despair. By adhering to the following tips, you can be a party animal and lose weight too.

Visit the Gym on Party Day

Head to the gym on the day you plan to attend a festive bash. Besides burning calories, you might also be less likely to indulge in calorie-laden treats at the party. If you work hard at the gym, you probably won’t wish to waste your efforts on a night of snacking. When you exercise, your brain releases feel good hormones known as endorphins. So, working out might also improve your mood on party day.

Eat a Pre-Party Snack

To decrease your odds of giving in to temptation at the bash, eat a pre-party snack. Select foods high in filling fiber such as:

  • Apple slices topped with peanut butter
  • Celery sticks dipped in hummus
  • A handful of pecans

Besides consuming a healthy snack, drink a glass of water before heading to the party. Drinking water will help you feel full and stay hydrated. People often confuse thirst for hunger.

Munch on Veggies, Fruits, and Lean Sources of Protein

When meandering down the buffet line, fill your plate with veggies, fruits, and lean sources of protein. For instance, opt for crudité instead of potato chips. Select shrimp cocktail rather than smoked sausage links.

Dieting shouldn’t preclude you from enjoying social events with friends and family members. If you have a string of parties on your calendar, consider following the aforementioned tips. MRC of Vancouver started me going in my attempt to loose 30 years of weight gain!! I have been using their program for about 18 months and have actually lost 30 pounds. I have changed the way I eat. I've learned what foods are best for ME. By analyzing my DNA and hormones, they helped me learn to eat what was right for me. I have "tweeked" my purchases and preparation of food to make eating healthy and still fun for me. I eat lots of veggies and salads and include a healthy diet of protein. These are very satisfying. Do I "cheat" now and then? Yes, but I don't like how I feel after eating sugar and lots of carbs so I return to my good foods quickly and continue to see my weight drop. I walk my little dog four times a day and have a part-time job that allows me a lot of movement. I feel so healthy and wonderful. It's easy to continue to eat and live a more healthy lifestyle! When I confessed about eating the wrong "foods", the gals simply encouraged me and gave me fresh ideas to satisfy my taste buds. I always felt I could be honest during my consultations with no fear of being lectured! I plan to continue until I reach my desired weight. I expect to reach my goal by 2017. After I reach my weight goal, I plan to remain in good health with my new found healthy way of eating the calories I need to maintain my proper weight. My Dr. is very pleased at my progress. She wondered how I have lost 30 pounds.
