How to Lose Weight and Keep It Off

The hardest part about losing weight is making the commitment to keep it off. Many times, we don't think past the weight loss and as soon as the pounds are gone we go back to our old habits. The weight starts to come back and the discouragement begins. For weight loss to be effective, you have to make lasting changes if you want to maintain your new, healthier weight. 

Avoid "Dieting"

Avoid dieting or preventing yourself from enjoying your food. Smaller portions is the first step to reducing your calories. Secondly, allow yourself to have the foods you love in moderation. This will prevent you from wanting to binge if you start to get discouraged. Eat in moderation and if you do pamper yourself with dessert, make up for it in the gym. 

Don't Weigh Every Day

Weighing yourself every day shows you every fluctuation in your weight, including the gains. Weighing yourself once a week will give you a more accurate view of how you are progressing on your weight loss journey. Your weight increases and decreases on a daily basis. The roller coaster ride that accompanies weight loss can be a nightmare if you try and ride it every day.

Change Your Habits, Change Your Life

If you want to keep the weight off long term, you need to change the habits that caused you to gain the weight in the first place. Identify your bad habits and exchange them for positive ones. This will take time, but in the end the changes you make will allow you to maintain a healthy weight and have a more positive outlook on life in general.
