Water Plays Multiple Roles in Good Health

Construction Worker Drinking Water

Feeling thirsty after a morning of house cleaning, you open the refrigerator. Immediately, you reach for your favorite brand of soda. Two hours later, you wash your lunch down with a tall glass of sweet tea. At the end of your hectic day, you make a troubling discovery. You haven’t even took one sip of water all day. If you can relate to this scenario, you’re not alone. However, water plays multiple roles in good health. In fact, drinking more water may help you accomplish the following important tasks.

Work Out Like a Pro

When working out, drinking adequate amounts of water is essential. Dehydration can make you feel fatigued. A mere two percent decrease in your body’s water content can drastically affect your performance.

Stay Focused at Work

Do you have trouble focusing at work? If you can’t seem to get anything productive done at the office, you might not be drinking enough water. Not having adequate fluids in your body can lead to poor concentration, memory loss, and feelings of anxiety.

Prevent Bothersome Constipation

When you don’t drink enough fluids, your colon extracts water from your stools in order to preserve your body’s hydration. Unfortunately, bothersome constipation results. To keep things expediently moving through your digestive tract, drink the recommended eight, eight ounce glasses of water each day.

Water Can Boost Weight Loss

Drinking water won’t magically make you lose weight. However, substituting your favorite, beverages such as fruit juice, soda, sweet tea, and alcohol with water help you decrease your caloric intake. Downing a glass of water at mealtimes can also help you feel full faster. Therefore, you might not consume as much of the food on your plate.

Drinking water is a wonderful way to improve your health and help you achieve your weight loss goals. However, forcing yourself to drink excessive amounts of water isn’t helpful. In fact, drinking too much too fast can cause deadly water intoxication. So, reach for water whenever you’re thirsty. When you quench your thirst, stop drinking.
