Winter Is The Time To Take Your Walk Indoors
People who use walking as a staple exercise for weight loss can be quickly thrown off course when the winter months bring the frigid temperatures and inclement weather. Walking in the rain or in hot, humid temperatures isn't a lot of fun either. When the weather is forbidding and you can't walk outside like you want to, you can always walk indoors.
There are many ways you can take your walking shoes inside and still get in a good workout. Some schools will open their doors to local residents for a monthly fee, so they can use the hallways, stairs and indoor athletic tracks. If you like a social atmosphere, you can also go to your local mall or shopping center and walk the main pathways. Use the stairs instead of the escalators and elevators and give your workout and added boost. You can also use this method in the grocery store. Make a list, shop as quickly as you can and make sure you go up and down each aisle. While this may be tempting fate, moving quickly eliminates the time you waste looking around, especially if you know where each item on your list is located.
The best way to take your walking workout indoors is to purchase a treadmill. Treadmills often come with varying degrees of both speed and incline. By setting the machine to "random", the speed and incline will change periodically, changing up your workout and making it seem more like an outdoor hike, instead of a boring walk inside the house. You can set the treadmill up so you can watch television or you can put in your headphones and listen to music or an audio book.
