Three Types of Food you Should Avoid Before Bedtime
While going to bed on an empty stomach is a bad idea, you will want to choose your late-night snacks with care. Eating the wrongs foods before going to bed at night will not only negatively affect your night's sleep but also cause weight gain. Following are three types of food that you should never eat right before bedtime.
Cakes, cupcakes, cookies, doughnuts, chocolates and other unhealthy foods should never be eaten right before you go to bed. Sugary foods take longer to digest than other foods, which means that your stomach will be working hard right when you are trying to relax. Instead, try a piece of fruit if you are craving a sweet snack in the late evening.
Protein rich foods such as steak, lamp, tofu, cheese and nuts also take a long time to digest. Eat foods that are rich in protein during the day and have something light at night.
Spicy snacks can cause reflux and heartburn, making it hard for you to get a good night's sleep. What is more, anyone who wants to enjoy a spicy dinner should do so at least three hours before going to bed.
Getting enough sleep at night is imperative if you want to lose weight and stay healthy, as a chronic lack of sleep has been linked with obesity, heart problems, kidney problems, diabetes, high blood pressure and depression. Thankfully, there are plenty of healthy foods you can snack on before you go to bed. Fruit salad, vegetable sticks with a low-fat dip, low-fat yogurt with a few nuts sprinkled on top and crackers are just some of the many snacks that you can safely eat and still enjoy a restful night's sleep.
