Cooking Tips to Support Healthy Weight Loss
Losing weight is as much about changing your eating habits as it is about cooking better foods. In this cooking-for-health blog, we explore some of the easy ways to cook that also help you lose weight.
Get a Crock Pot
Crock pots are amazing tools that take much of the time out of cooking. A good tip is to use your crock pot to make a base ingredient that you can use all week. An example of this would be a crock pot of beans, about two cups dried. These can be plain or seasoned. You can use them to add to salads, in soups, and even in casseroles. Having a stock of already made base ingredients lets you just grab what you need and cook. You don't have to do through all of the labor of making beans or rice every time you want to cook dinner.
You can also use a crock pot to make soup, stews, and other dishes that are loaded with healthy vegetables and lean meats.
Get a Second Set of Measuring Cups
Much of weight loss is portion control. Start measuring what goes on your plate. Half a cup of brown rice, half a cup of beans, two cups of veggies, 3 ounces of lean meat. That is a lot of food, and all of it is good for you. By controlling your carb intake, you reduce caloric intake and the weight drops off. Measure everything.
Learn the Value of Poaching Foods
Don't fry that egg. Instead, poach it. Don't bake or fry your salmon, poach it. Poaching is easy and requires very little time. It takes about three minutes to poach a filet of salmon. You can season your dishes with lemon, garlic, onions, or add dry spices such as cumin, turmeric, or curry.
