Is Garlic Really Good for You?

As you’ve likely heard, garlic is incredibly healthy. In fact, it’s one of the widest quoted diet inclusions due to its medicinal properties. Since its mass popularity in Transylvania—protection against vampires—garlic has had a nearly unnatural debut into the world of health, wellness and food.

Garlic, today, is the second best-selling herb in America. It has a lot to offer, and its characteristic flavor, pungency and widespread cuisine use makes it a go-to selection for most. Its abundance of oil-and-water-soluble elements, alongside sulfur contents, make it responsible for worldwide health use, too. Often subscribed as part of complex, comprehensive diet plans, garlic is clearly a national favorite. 


Heart Healthy Benefits

According to the National Institutes of Health, garlic’s popularity isn’t unwarranted. It’s used to aid several conditions linked to the heart and surrounding blood system, including high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, heart attack and hypertension. 

That said, triglyceride and cholesterol reduction aren’t benefitted much by garlic. Sure, the herb is useful. It can’t cure everything, however, and often fails in creating noteworthy benefits in these areas. While incredibly useful for heart protection, garlic’s health benefits extend to the individual’s ability to maintain adequate self-care.

Blood Vessel Protection 

At its core, garlic is beneficial to blood vessel health, sustainability and protection. Garlic protects blood cells from oxidative and inflammatory stress, negating the damages incurred by highly reactive oxygen molecules. When exposed to these molecules, blood vessel linings can pose a series of cardiovascular problems, including atherosclerosis, heart attack and long-term stress. So, if you’re planning on having a heart-healthy diet, garlic may be an indispensable component. Don’t, however, rely totally on it. Garlic serves its purpose, but it shouldn’t be used as a substitute for day-to-day diet plans, healthy lifestyle options or other foods.
