Does Meal Time Have Metabolic Consequences?
Meal times are essential to staying focused and alert throughout the day. Eating the right foods at the right time will keep your energy levels high and will help you to slow yourself down when it comes time to relax for the day. When people say breakfast is the most important meal of the day, they are exactly right.
A good breakfast sets the tone for the day. It provides a quick boost to get the day off to a good start and provides a sustained level of energy to help get a person through the first few hours of the day. A healthy snack will keep energy levels steady until the noon meal. While many people prefer a good lunch, eating smaller snacks throughout the morning and early afternoon will eliminate cravings, satisfy hunger pains and help to keep energy levels on an even keel.
Eating the large meal of the day between 3 and 5 p.m. will help to keep a person's weight low. Finishing the largest meal of the day before 6 p.m. ensures that the majority of the calories consumed will be used before a person retires for the night. People who tend to eat their largest meal of the day after 6 p.m. gain weight more easily because they do not have enough time to work off the extra calories before they go to bed.
Eating carbohydrates during the peak hours of the day will provide sustained levels of energy that will allow a person to go from meal to meal without being overly hungry or becoming fatigued. Proteins are another good way to provide sustained level of energy, but eating them during the final hours of the day gives the body a chance to use the protein for muscle repair and rejuvenation while the person sleeps.
