Eating Myths Can Hinder Weight Loss
You’ve probably been listening to many eating myths for your entire life. Unfortunately, those myths could be hindering your weight loss. Here’s a look at three common myths and the truth behind them that you need to know if you’re going to lose weight.
Myth #1 – Clean Your Plate
Most kids have heard their parents say, “Clean up your plate because there are starving children.” Sadly, there are starving children around the world, but always cleaning up your plate may be a myth. Whether you should really eat up everything on your plate all depends on what you’re putting on your plate. If you’re loading up on whole grains, lean meats, fruits, and veggies, then you may lose faster if you eat up. However, if that plate is filled with unhealthy food choices, you could set yourself up for gaining weight and many health problems.
Myth #2 – You Can’t Eat After 8pm
Another common eating myth is that you can’t eat after 8pm if you want to lose weight. Of course, limiting your late night snacking is definitely important if you want to avoid gaining weight. However, late night eating doesn’t have to lead to weight gain if you choose the right foods. For example, eating some protein before you head to bed could help increase strength and muscle gains if you exercise regularly. Eating a small snack may even help you to sleep better at night.
Myth #3 – A Small Eating Change Can Result in Weight Loss
Perhaps you’ve heard that making one small eating change can help you enjoy long-term weight loss results. While making small eating changes can help you lose weight, one little change isn’t going to help you lose a significant amount of weight over time. The better choice is to make multiple small changes that build on each other, which will help you change your entire way of eating, helping you enjoy the long-term weight loss you want.
