It is often easier to stay on track when you expand your weight loss plan to include the whole family. This allows you to introduce good eating habits early in a child's life. Although you shouldn't be obsessed with your children's weight, you should pay attention as they grow and discuss any concerns you might have with your child's pediatrician or health care provider. As long as it stays positive, you can make a game out of measuring their height and waist. Just remember that kids sometimes put on extra weight and then shoot up like a bean stalk.

A major advantage of involving the whole family is to eat meals at home together that are healthy and nutritious. Allow your children the opportunity to learn to respond their internal hunger cues rather learn social ones or even adopt yours. Teach your whole family to reach for water first and make certain they quench their thirst first, then eat a healthy snack or meal. A great way for them to feel involved is to allow them to come up with a healthy meal plan at least once a week. This way, they can shop for the ingredients and assist in preparing the food.

As you encourage your kids to be physically active, take note that this is a good time for you to act like a kid again. Not all physical activity has to be competitive. If you keep outdoor play equipment, bicycles and soccer balls available for everyone to use and add fun activities to your own schedule. By encouraging your children to spend more time with these new interests, you automatically reduce the amount of time they have to spend on more passive types of entertainment.

Just always be positive and you'll have a live-in partner to support and celebrate your own weight loss goals.
