Chalkboard with Tips and Tricks

Okay, so you've definitely decided it is time to lose some weight but you could use a few pointers. If you're like millions of Americans, the first thing that you've got to do is to stop gaining weight. This is not uncommon as most adults experience some level of weight creep where you feel like you're doing fine but the numbers on the scale slowly increases with time. But, don't get discouraged before you even get started. With a few simple mind tricks, you can stop gaining and start shedding pounds.

If you're ready to see a new you, try these four great tips for literally tricking your brain and body into feeling more satisfied with less food:

Use a Smaller Plate - This Jedi mind trick utilizes an optical effect called the Delboeuf Illusion, which can make the same amount of food appear much larger when the portion is served in smaller dishes and bowls.

Use the Same Color - There have been several studies where researchers documented participants dishing out less food when using a plate or bowl that matched the color of the tablecloth.

Avoid Distractions When Eating - In a research study published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, participants who ate snacks while playing a card game consumed twice as much food but reported feeling less full than those who were not distracted.

Section Food Into Smaller Pieces - At Arizona State University, researchers served two groups of participants an endless amount of bagels. Some received whole bagels while others were given bagels that had been cut into four pieces. Those who were served cut bagels consumed less.
