Target Belly Fat with Herbs and Spices
Ancient cultures looked to nature to cure illnesses. Their trial and error science revealed some herbs and spices helped with symptoms of sicknesses, cured insomnia and helped to heal minor injuries. Today, medical researchers continue to plunder the flora and fauna, looking for that exotic herb or spice that can help people lose weight and improve their health. Here are some aromatic plants and common seasonings that may do more than just make your food’s flavor pop.
Two studies have shown that this spice can help with weight loss. A 2011 study published in the journal Physiology & Behavior suggests consuming red pepper may aid in appetite control and metabolism. In general, adding red pepper to meals helped participants burn more calories. The participants who did not like cayenne pepper felt less hungry after consuming the food.
Another study at the University of Wyoming showed evidence that a key ingredient in cayenne pepper, capsaicin, stimulates thermogenesis. The 2015 animal study showed rats that consumed capsaicin experienced fat reduction. The researchers theorized the hot peppers turned the storage fats in the rat bodies into energy burning fats.
Much of the medical world is skeptical about ginger’s fat reducing qualities. However, a 2013 study published in the European Review for Medical and Pharmacological Sciences showed that ginger had a significant fat reduction effect on rats that received a high fat diet.
Research funded by the Agricultural Research Service observed rats on a high-fat rat diet. The researchers gave the experimental rat group a supplement of the spice turmeric. Those rats that consumed the spice experienced greater weight and fat losses by the end of the experiment than the control group. The researchers believe that a substance in turmeric restricts the creation of new blood vessels necessary to create new fat deposits.
Burn Fat Naturally
No one is going to eat massive quantities of cayenne pepper or turmeric every day. However, natural food adherents may benefit by including dishes in their menus that utilize these and other spices and herbs that can help with fat burning. Many delicious ethnic recipes contain cayenne pepper and ginger, especially Southeast Asian foods. Indian curries may contain turmeric as well as the other spices. Brave souls may add these spices to their real food smoothies as supplements to regular meals.
