Is Your Year Off to a Healthy Start?
Like many past years, losing weight topped your list of New Year’s Day resolutions. On the first day of January, you almost couldn’t contain your excitement about your new diet plan. Unfortunately, with every passing day, your enthusiasm wanes a little more. You’re even thinking about throwing in the towel once again. If you can relate to this scenario, you probably don’t think your year is off to a healthy start. Even though things might not be going as planned, don’t give up. You still have plenty of time to lose weight and transform your life for the better this year.
If your year isn’t off to the healthy start you hope for, take stock of your situation. List both the things you’re excelling at and the issues you’re struggling with so far this year. For example, you might be eating five servings of fruits and vegetables every day, but are still consuming a calorie laden dessert each night. Develop steps to work on your weaknesses.
If you haven’t already done so, create both short-term and long-term goals for your weight loss program. What exactly do you want to accomplish? For instance, a good short-term objective might be to lose 10 pounds next month while a great long-term goal may be to run a marathon next year. Goals are often amazing motivators. However, they need to be realistic. Setting unattainable goals can be crippling to your weight loss plan. Whenever you don’t meet them, you will likely feel defeated.
As you meet both your short-term and long-term goals, reward yourself for your hard work. But, don’t let old habits creep back in during this process. Instead of rewarding yourself with a piece of red velvet cake, consider:
- Indulging in a massage
- Buying a new book
- Watching a favorite movie
- Purchasing some new workout clothes
If you’re ready to make this year your healthiest ever, consider making an appointment with a consultant at the Metabolic Research Center. Most of the consultants at the Metabolic Research Center were actually clients first. So, they understand firsthand what it takes to successfully lose weight.
