What To Eat While Dining Out - Part I
One of the biggest challenges you are probably encountering or going to encounter on your weight loss journey is how to eat healthy, whole foods when you go out to eat at a restaurant. Sure, an easy solution would be to cook every meal at home, but we know that is not realistic. Between family gatherings, birthday parties, girls nights, and sporting events there are many times you will find yourself in unchartered waters when it comes to eating healthy. We have come up with a few tips and tricks when you are dining at the following types of restaurants.
American: There are two things you should do at the beginning of your meal at a traditional American restaurant. First, tell your server that you do not want bread service. Also, avoid ordering any fried appetizers. Second, order a salad to start. Regardless of what you are going to order for your entree it is always smart to fill up on raw vegetables first. Choose a low-fat dressing or vinaigrette. When it comes time to order an entree, try to pick a chicken or fish and go with vegetables as the side. Or, if the restaurant has sweet potato fries as an option, those are good too.
Mexican: Who doesn’t love a delicious taco or burrito? We recommend ordering tacos filled with chicken, steak or fish. Keep it light when it comes to the sour cream and guacamole. Avocados are a good fat, but try not to overindulge. If they offer any extra vegetables like green peppers or corn, definitely add those on.
Delivery Pizza: Sometimes you are just not in the mood to cook and dirty up your kitchen. We totally understand. So this tip is for pizza lovers: Go for a thin crust and ask for light cheese and extra vegetable toppings. Order a salad as well and be sure to eat that first so you fill up on raw vegetables.
