Don't Worry.. Be Happy.. Weigh Less!
Worry, stress and anxiety are all known to make people pack on the pounds. Stress releases additional cortisol into your system, increasing your appetite. What is more, people who feel stressed often turn to "comfort foods" that almost invariably have a high sugar content and lots of calories. These foods cause the brain to release endorphins, a hormone that makes you feel relaxed and at ease. Unfortunately, the good feelings are often short-lived and you wind up trapped in a vicious cycle of eating junk food every time you feel stressed out.
Stress has many other negative side effects as well. It lowers your immunity to sickness, triggers blood sugar and insulin imbalances, causes insomnia and loss of lean muscle mass and slows down your metabolism. If you want to get rid of unwanted pounds, then reducing stress is the first place to start.
There are many effective ways to deal with worry and stress. To start with, resolve to adopt an attitude of gratitude. When you feel stressed out or worried about a situation, look for the bright side and focus on it. Find at least one thing each day that you can be thankful for.
It also helps to put your worries in perspective. Consider the likelihood of your worries coming true. Then determine if what you are worried about is really all that important. If it is both realistic and important, make a plan outlining how to deal with the issue.
Stress and worry do not need to control your life. Consider the tips outlined above and come up with a plan for dealing with stress and worries in a healthy manner. You will feel better, be happier and reach your weight goals faster if you learn to beat stress from the get go.
