Many people find themselves staring at the light in the refrigerator as they search for an after-dinner snack. While having a bite to eat while watching your favorite TV show is certainly enjoyable, it can also wreak havoc on your weight loss goals. Following are some tips to help you avoid having to search through your refrigerator in search of something good to eat after dinner.
To start with, be sure you eat a healthy dinner that is rich in fiber and other nutrients. Fiber leaves you feeling full and satisfied after a meal so you aren't tempted to snack on something right after dinner is done. Foods with high fiber content include brown rice, tortillas, whole grain bread and vegetables.
You will also want to keep a stash of healthy snacks on hand so you know where to find a good bite to eat while you relax in the evening. Small packs of plain nuts, your favorite fruits, cut vegetables and low fat dip, low fat natural yogurt, low fat cheese and whole wheat bread all make great healthy snacks that will enable you to stick to a healthy diet without feeling hungry.
Alternatively, you may want to consider having something to drink instead of something to eat. An herbal tea can help you relax in the evening, as can a cup of low fat warm milk. Avoid alcoholic beverages if you want to lose weight as beer, wine and other drinks have high calorie content.
It's possible to enjoy great food while sticking to a healthy diet. Create a healthy meal and diet plan, shop for nutritious ingredients in advance, then sit back and enjoy eating tasty meals and treats without having to worry about packing on the pounds.
