Fat-Free Might Not Be That Healthy

0% Fat Free

Back in the 1980s, Americans went on a fat-free kick when studies showed Americans were getting too much saturated fat. The only problem – American’s are now fatter than ever. The truth is that fat-free just isn’t healthy. Your body needs some fat, and it can’t survive without it. If you’re trying to lose weight, here are a few reasons to skip those fat-free foods.

Reason #1 – Sugar Replaces Fat

Unfortunately, fat-free foods don’t taste very good, so manufacturers replace the fat with sugar to make them taste better. You don’t need more sugar in your diet, and those sugars end up being stored as fat by your body.

Reason #2 – Fat is Actually Metabolized Slower Than Carbs

A snack that has some healthy fats in it is actually metabolized slower by your body than a high-carb snack. Those low-fat or fat-free snacks leave you feeling hungry more often, which only increases snacking. Healthy fats burn slowly and keep you feeling full longer.

Reason #3 – Your Brain and Body Need Healthy Fats

Healthy fats help your body heal, grow, and sustain energy. Certain fats are also needed to help the body take in certain nutrients. It’s all about consuming the right fats. The key is to recognize that there are both good fats and bad fats. Eating too much saturated fat can be dangerous to your health, but adding polyunsaturated and monounsaturated fats to your diet is a healthy choice.

Skip the packaged, fat-free foods and go with healthy snacks that contain healthy fats. Remember, fat-free doesn’t mean it’s healthy for you. Start eating healthy fats in moderation if you want to win the battle of the bulge. Learn even more essential fat facts by contacting the professionals at the Metabolic Research Center today.
