For the fifth morning in a row, you scarfed down a honey bun for breakfast while getting your kids ready for school. Oatmeal is packed with fiber that will keep you feeling full longer. This fantastic, breakfast alternative consists of both insoluble and soluble fiber. Soluble fiber is believed to be able to:

  • Lower cholesterol
  • Prevent constipation
  • Control blood sugar levels

When shopping for oatmeal, look for plain varieties void of added sugar and sodium. You can sweeten up your plain oatmeal with cinnamon and dried fruit such as raisons.


Because so many unhealthy options reside on supermarket shelves, cereal often gets a bad rap. Fortunately, all types of cereal won’t derail your diet plan. Like oatmeal, you should always shop for cereal without waistline expanding sugar. Some kinds of cereal on the market today have as much, if not more, sugar than certain brands of candy bars, cookies, and ice cream. Look for selections that are made out of 100 percent whole grains. Also, be wary of serving sizes. Many people unknowingly eat two of three servings of their favorite cereals each day.

To lose weight and keep it off for life, you need to jumpstart your day with a delicious, filling, and healthy breakfast. Eating a substantial breakfast will prevent the midmorning munchies and provide you with enough energy to power through a productive day. The aforementioned, breakfast options are not only quick and tasty. They also won’t stand in the way of your weight loss goals.
