When it comes to managing your blood sugar, finding a natural way to do it is always the best route. Even so, this will be a fine-tuned endeavor, and will be different for each person. All of our bodies are unique, and while there are certain things we all need in our diet, often we need very different doses.

If you’re looking for a way to decrease your blood sugar in a natural way, look no further than Psyllium. This seed husk is a soluble fiber that can be added as a meal supplement and has many different benefits. It not only can be used as a laxative or to help hemorrhoids, but has been shown to reduce blood sugar and assist with managing type 2 Diabetes.

In a study published by the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, the tests showed that Psyllium had a similar result in lowering blood sugar that some blood sugar medications have. In 2010, the Annals of Pharmacotherapy published a review from the University of California claiming that Psyllium was beneficial to those with Diabetes who used it to manage their blood sugar.

Going the natural route is will always have less possibility of harmful side effects down the road, but it’s still important to consult your doctor or nutritionist before adding something like Psyllium to your diet. It’s especially important if you are already taking a medication to lower your blood pressure and want to add Psyllium as well. Without consulting your physician and tapering back your current medication, you may actually drop your blood sugar to a level lower than needed, which would also be harmful.

If you do decide Psyllium is the right option for you, make sure to take it at least a couple hours before meals or other medications, because it may interfere with your body absorbing those other necessary elements.
