Healthy Tips for Staying Hydrated
During the hot summer months, staying hydrated is important. In fact, it’s actually important to stay hydrated all year long. However, when you’re outdoors sweating in the heat and having a great time, sometimes it’s tough to get enough fluids. The good news is that it’s fairly easy to stay hydrated if you think about it and stay on top of your fluid intake. Staying hydrated is essential for your overall health, since your body is about 60-70% water. Use these healthy tips to stay hydrated and healthy.
Tip #1 – Eat More Produce
Adding more produce to your diet can help you stay hydrated, particularly if you choose options that have a high water content. Both strawberries, watermelon, which contain around 92% water by volume. Other fruits that have high water content include plums, grapefruit, pineapple, blueberries, plums, peaches, and oranges. Veggies that have high water content include lettuces, celery, zucchini, and cucumbers. Since fruits and veggies include essential nutrients in them, they can help you recover and rehydrate after working out.
Tip #2 – Drink More Water
Obviously, drinking more water is one of the best ways to stay hydrated. Water is the best option for keeping your body well hydrated, and it’s better than fruit juices and energy drinks. Unfortunately, it’s often difficult to get enough water to stay hydrated. Make sure you’re getting plenty of water by keeping a water bottle with you this summer. Start drinking before you get thirsty, since you can lose a lot of water before you begin to feel thirsty. If you’re not a big fan of plain water, add berries, citrus fruits, or even herbs to your water to give it a flavor boost.
Tip #3 – Limit Caffeine
Sure, caffeinated beverages like iced coffee or iced tea might sound good on a hot day, but they can dehydrate you. Since caffeine is a diuretic, it can result in dehydration. Skip these beverages and stick to water to stay hydrated.
Fresh fruits and vegetables contain plenty of water and keep you feeling full without caffeine or empty calories. Several portions of each every day can help you reach your weight loss goals and restore your health much faster.
