Can Drinking Water Help with Weight Loss?
Water diets are currently in vogue but that does not mean they are healthy or effective. Like other extreme fad diets, water diets may lead to temporary weight loss but will not help you keep fat off permanently. What is more, these diets deprive your body of the nutrition you need to stay healthy.
Everyone needs water and water should be a part of any healthy diet plan. Drinking water instead of soft drinks, juice or sports drinks will reduce your caloric intake and thus help you lose weight. In some instances, your body is thirsty rather than hungry and so drinking a cup of water instead of reaching for a sugary snack is a good idea. However, it is important to note that water should never take the place of a healthy meal or snack. You need to eat three square meals a day and have at least one or two healthy snacks as well if you want to maintain or achieve a healthy figure.
There are no shortcuts to permanent weight loss. It takes time to pack on the pounds and it will take time to lose them. However, the good news is that anyone can lose weight by following a healthy diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grain foods and low-fat dairy foods. Drinking plenty of water every day is an addition to a healthy diet but should never be used as a substitute for one.
