Have Your Cheese and Eat It Too!


Bread with CheeseA healthy diet may involve eliminating or reducing foods that you love. It's true, but it's often not as bad as you think. In reality, it's simply about educating yourself about foods and making smarter choices. Don't despair that giving up everything you enjoy is the only way to lose weight, though.

Take cheese for example. People are often under the misconception that you have to give up cheese all together in order to lose weight, or that cheese is bad for you. This isn't true, however. Cheese is actually a great source of protein, and it adds a rich, creamy flavor and texture to many of your favorite healthy dishes.

Choose Your Cheese Wisely

Some examples of smart cheese consumption include using cheeses that are lower in fat and calories. Hard cheeses like parmesan don't add much in the way of calories and fat, yet add extra flavor to your favorite dishes. You don't have to add a ton, either!

Crumbling feta cheese into your salads and veggie dishes add flavor and creamy texture and they make your dishes more filling. One ounce of feta cheese only adds 75 calories and 6 grams of fat to your meal.

When you add just a small amount of cheeses like Romano, parmesan, feta or goat cheese into your soups, salads, omelets and veggie dishes, you are adding protein and flavor with very little calories and fat. Again, moderation is the key. Don't go overboard, just add enough.
