Is Your Dog Weight Loss Friendly?

Around 62% of households in America have one or more pets, but unfortunately, more than half of dogs and 70% of Americans happen to be overweight. The good news is that you and our furry friend can work on losing weight together. Use the following tips and ideas to lose some weight with your pooch.

Tip #1 – Take Longer Walks

Don’t just take your dog on a walk long enough to let him have a potty break. Instead, make sure you’re taking longer walks. Head to a park, around the neighborhood, or enjoy walking along the beach. You can even add some jogging or running to your walk to pick up the pace and increase the calorie burn for you and your dog.

Tip #2 – Head to Pet-Friendly Classes

Today it’s easy to find jogging clubs, yoga studios, and gyms that offer helpful classes that allow you and man’s best friend to work out together. Try one of these classes to get moving or enjoy taking a class or meeting up with other dog owners to burn some calories together. 

Tip #3 – Use a Varied Surface

You’ll get a much better workout on a varied surface than you will on a flat surface. You can make your own outdoor gym space in the backyard by adding some weave poles, jumping hoops, platforms, tunnels, and dirt hills to the mix. Both you and your dog will enjoy it and it will improve your health too.

Tip #4 – Play Together

Take the time to play more with your pet, which will help you both burn more calories. Instead of relaxing on the couch, head outdoors for tug-of-war, Frisbee, or chase. You’ll have a great time, you’ll reduce your stress level, and you’ll both lose some weight.
