Five Reasons Hiking Beats the Gym

Hiking Me Time

Spring has sprung. Why not take advantage of the rising temperatures to switch up your exercise routine? Here are five reasons why hiking beats the gym when you're looking to slim down and tone up.

  1. Hiking is a better workout: Waking flat gym, track or city surfaces is an adequate workout.  But if you really want to tone up, hiking provides a more effective and varied workout. That's because traversing the uneven terrain of grass, hills, rocks, etc. use more muscles than does flat-surface walking.
  2. Hiking is a change of pace: Let's face it - The view from the treadmill handlebars doesn't change much, though you might be lucky enough to get a TV-screen view. Hiking, however, provides a plethora of possible views. The city skyline, the park, the river, the beach, the woods - Depending upon where you live, the views are endless.
  3. Hiking can help you de-stress: Studies have shown that spending a little time in the great outdoors can be a prime stress reliever and can help lower incidences of depression.
  4. Hiking is a chance for some "me time": Need a little time to yourself? Taking a solo hike offers a chance to get away for a bit to think, reflect and recharge.
  5. Hiking is a chance for some "we time": On the other hand, hiking also offers a chance to reconnect with your significant other, your kids or your best bud. Leave the technology behind and get some face time while you get a workout together.

While many weight loss programs focus solely on diets, Metabolic Research Center advocates an active lifestyle that includes varied exercise as well as a healthy nutrition plan. Call 800-501-8090 to find out more today.

MRC of Vancouver started me going in my attempt to loose 30 years of weight gain!! I have been using their program for about 18 months and have actually lost 30 pounds. I have changed the way I eat. I've learned what foods are best for ME. By analyzing my DNA and hormones, they helped me learn to eat what was right for me. I have "tweeked" my purchases and preparation of food to make eating healthy and still fun for me. I eat lots of veggies and salads and include a healthy diet of protein. These are very satisfying. Do I "cheat" now and then? Yes, but I don't like how I feel after eating sugar and lots of carbs so I return to my good foods quickly and continue to see my weight drop. I walk my little dog four times a day and have a part-time job that allows me a lot of movement. I feel so healthy and wonderful. It's easy to continue to eat and live a more healthy lifestyle! When I confessed about eating the wrong "foods", the gals simply encouraged me and gave me fresh ideas to satisfy my taste buds. I always felt I could be honest during my consultations with no fear of being lectured! I plan to continue until I reach my desired weight. I expect to reach my goal by 2017. After I reach my weight goal, I plan to remain in good health with my new found healthy way of eating the calories I need to maintain my proper weight. My Dr. is very pleased at my progress. She wondered how I have lost 30 pounds.
