Holiday sweets and traditional desserts are the downfall of many a weight loss program. Learning how to enjoy your holiday sweets and still manage your diet can be an interesting process, however, it can be accomplished. It is important to remember a few tips to help you get through the meal without overdoing it.

Most importantly, eat sweets in moderation. They may taste great, but the excess can sugar can upset your stomach and make you feel not so good later. It's a good idea to remember to not overload your plate all at once with sweet foods. Try one or two each time, but do so in small amounts. This will allow you to eat healthier foods too. Instead of eating an entire serving of your favorite dessert at dinner, ask if you can take a serving home with you.

Many people gorge themselves on holiday sweets because they are only made once a year. Instead of waiting till the next holiday, ask for the recipe. You can always make them at home whenever you choose. If you don't want to spoil the anticipation, serve the dessert at other holidays. Just because you have the recipe, it doesn't mean you have to make them all of the time.

Another easy way to manage your holiday sweets consumption is to eat the main portion of your meal first. Chew your food slowly and take your time. This will give your stomach more time to realize that it is full. Once you reach that point, choose one or two desserts and take smaller portions. When you are finished with them, walk away from the table. This may take some willpower, but if you can accomplish it, you will know you are on the right track to maintaining your diet goals.
