  3. Build a backyard agility course: A varied surface lends a much more effective workout than does a flat surface. Turn your backyard into an outdoor gym of sorts by adding platforms, dirt hills, tunnels, jumping hoops and weave poles. Your dog will have a blast and you'll both benefit health-wise.
  4. Play more: Make more interactions with your pet potential calorie burners. Get off the couch and play a game of chase, Frisbee or tug-of-war. You'll both slim down, de-stress and have fun, too.
